EndoDrill® GI Upper
BiBB’s first product, EndoDrill® GI Upper, was launched in Sweden in August 2017. This disposable instrument is used in flexible endoscopy for sampling deep tumours in the upper gastrointestinal tract, and has been clinically tested in over 100 patients at hospitals in Sweden. Since November 2018, the product has been granted an expanded clinical indication and can also be used for tumours in the colon and lungs. A published randomised clinical study at Skåne University Hospital in Lund showed that EndoDrill® GI Upper produced significantly larger biopsies and more deep tissue than conventional biopsy forceps1. This enables earlier diagnosis and makes it possible to perform a diagnosis.
The product competes with other methods, primarily biopsy forceps and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration/biopsy (EUS-FNA/FNB). In many cases, the latter methods are not sufficient for complete diagnosis on which treatment can be based and are currently in use primarily in major centres and university hospitals. The methods usually involve longer processing times. The cell samples generated by the EUS-FNA/FNB instruments also require a greater number of preparation steps compared to solid tissue samples. EndoDrill® GI Upper makes it possible to take larger solid biopsies with more deep tissue and with limited risks.
EndoDrill® GI Upper Mini is a biopsy instrument designed for small and difficult-to-reach tumours in the upper GI tract.
Intended use: EndoDrill® GI Upper is intended for use by healthcare professionals for the sampling of tumours. The purpose of the sampling is to provide physical tissue samples used to look for diseases (primarily cancer) in various organs and tissues by means of a flexible endoscope. The instrument can be used for tissue sampling in both the upper and the lower gastrointestinal tract as well as in bronchoscopy, provided that the length and diameter of the instrument channel is compatible with the EndoDrill® instrument. Sampling is performed on tumours 1 mm in size, i.e. tumours that can be seen visually or by ultrasound. There is no upper limit for the size or number of biopsies for sampled tumours. The instrument must not be used outside of its indication areas.
Certificates: BiBBInstruments’ quality system is approved according to EN ISO 13485:2012. EndoDrill® GI Upper is CE-marked after issued EC certificate (MDD 93/42/EEC Annex II excl Section 4)
